we have all been in this position where we say to ourselves "right I am going to go to bed and get a really good nights sleep. " But we all know that at 1 am your still going to be awake either thinking about that one special person you have always wanted to tell that you like them but your too scared to . Or you just sit there thinking about what happened that day, maybe your regretting something you said or something you did or maybe you overthinking and thinking that no one love's you or you no one (which is very very very very unlikely. ) just remember that these are just 1 am thought we all have them.
Right now we are going to get a bit sciencey (really good word Chelsea real good word .)
We have late night thoughts because :
1. At night, there are fewer distractions (less noise, less things to do, fewer to no people to interact with) that so our mind wanders to the places that it shouldn’t. The daily distractions such as homework to do, friends to talk to, places to go keep our mind in check, none of which is readily available at night.
2. The quietness and darkness of the night cause us to experience negative emotions such as worry, fear, loneliness and anxiety. These emotions lead to thoughts that are generally negative.
3. Due to the fact that there is less visual stimulus at night, our brain is more active since it doesn’t have to process as much external information. This leaves room and energy resource for the brain to process what’s already inside, our inner most thoughts.
How to stop late night thinking.
- DONT drink coffee or tea before going to sleep.; we use coffee and tea to help us to wake up in the morning so why would we drink this at night.
- keeping a diary : keeping a diary or writing down your thought before going to bed really does help it helps to unblock you mind we any worries or any thoughts you have collected throughout the day.
- Listen to music: listening to music will help distract you and stop you thinking about any unwanted thoughts you can get apps that allow to listen to music / sounds like falling rain or the best one of them all a washing machine (I would defiantly fall asleep to that haha. ) .The app I would recommend is called white noise its a free app and allows you to set times so the sounds will stop when you fall asleep (helps save your battery life.)
I hope this post helps you , feel free to comment
any other tips that you may have.
Anyway it's,
